Kanakis MD, MSc, MLS (ASCP)CM is a first year resident physician in the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Department at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago with interests in hematopathology, transfusion medicine, bioethics, public health, and graphic medicine. a board-certified Medical Laboratory Scientist and one of ASCP’s 2017 Top 40 Under Forty. He studied Molecular Biology, Bioethics, and Political Science at Loyola University and Medical Laboratory Science at Rush University. His graduate research focused on hematopoietic stem cell transplants and engraftment; he has worked as a generalist, transplant/transfusion senior, QA/QC and education coordinator, and hematology technologist. He has contributed to public health abroad leading arbovirus prevention and detection and is a certified CAP inspector. With ASCP he holds the Advanced Certificate in Medical Laboratory Management through Lab Management University (LMU), been featured in ASCP’s Stories from the Heart Series, and been recognized nationally with the ASCP Medical Student Award and grants. He is also on the ASCP Social Media #SoMeTeam and is a new member of ASCP’s CCPD committee.
