Technical help

Course Description

This course is aimed at teaching students about the clinical microbiology laboratories, relevant regulations, careers, hierarchy, and testing diversity. We will also be analyzing various species seen in the clinical microbiology lab and (hopefully) be able to use that knowledge in case studies where laboratory and clinical data are provided. In the end, we hope the students will gain a better understanding of what is required to get a microbial identification by a hospital lab, what happens when high-consequence pathogens are identified, and where samples go when they are identified as a reportable pathogen or unidentified.
