Objectives:

By the end of the video, students should be able to:

  1. Describe the gross structure of the kidney and understand where the key parts of the nephron are situated within the kidney. 

  2. Understand the structure of the nephron and function of its components including the renal corpuscle, proximal convoluted tubule, loop of Henle, distal convoluted tubule, and collecting duct. 

  3. Know the location and components of the juxtaglomerular apparatus and know how it participates in regulation of blood pressure. 

  4. Summarize the structures urine must pass through after exiting the kidney to be removed from the body and identify the key histological components of each part of the tract.
